A voice clone learns from a person's speech in their native language. When that voice speaks the target language, it carries the original pronunciation, and you get an accent. This is a property of cloning, not a bug.
How it is set up #
- Clone of the original voice at upload is always made without an accent in the target language. There is no separate setting.
- Your own voice in "Voices" speaks with the accent of the recording by default. The "Remove accent" switch moves it to native pronunciation of the target language.
The price of clean pronunciation #
To remove the accent, the voice is adapted to another language. The timbre stays, but similarity to the original drops. So the choice is:
| What matters more | What to do |
|---|---|
| The voice being recognisable | Your own voice, "Remove accent" off |
| Speech sounding native | Your own voice with "Remove accent", or a clone from the video |
The switch works for the main target languages: English, Russian, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Dutch, Hindi, Arabic, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tamil, Czech, Swedish, Slovak, Hebrew, Thai, Telugu. For other languages the voice speaks as it is.
If the accent is in the way and you do not need your own voice, pick a voice from the "Male" or "Female" library: these are native speakers of the target language.
