In short

A translation takes three steps: upload the video, choose languages and voices, get the result. Minutes are charged when you press "Translate", not at upload. For a comparison of tools and approaches see the video translation guide.

1. Upload the video #

  • A file in MP4, MOV, MP3 or WAV. Up to 500 MB on Start, 1,000 MB on Pro, 1,500 MB on Business.
  • Or a YouTube link. Other sites are not accepted. YouTube does not hand over private and age-restricted videos: download such a video and upload it as a file.
  • Video length: up to 30 minutes on Start, 60 on Pro, 90 on Business. Shorter than 5 seconds is not accepted.
  • One video at a time. If the connection drops, the upload retries by itself, see The file will not upload.

2. Choose languages and voices #

  • You pick the source language, there is no auto-detection. If the video has several languages, pick the main one.
  • Number of speakers: how many different people talk in the video, see How many speakers to set.
  • A voice for each speaker: a clone from the video, a library voice or your own voice, see Why the voice does not sound like the original.
  • In the options: "Keep background sounds" keeps music and noise, "Keep the original track" mixes in the muted original, "Check the text first, then dub" stops the task after translation so you can fix the text in the editor before dubbing.

3. Wait and download #

  • Statuses: "Transcribing", "Translating", "In progress", then "Done". An estimate is shown next to it. A short video is usually ready in a few minutes, a long one can take up to half an hour.
  • An email arrives when it is ready, if emails are enabled in "Account".
  • The "⋮" menu next to the translation: MP4, WAV, SRT subtitles in both languages, see What you can download and how long a translation is kept.
  • Clicking a finished translation opens the editor, see How the editor works.

The "Error" status means the minutes have already been returned to your balance. For what the error text means, see The task ended with an error.
